RTI Harlequin® RIP-Kit v.8
PostScript, PDF and XPS RIP Software

The RTI Harlequin® RIP-Kit includes everything you need to get great looking output from your
platesetter, imagesetter, printing press, thermal printer or inkjet printer. The RIP-Kit continues to deliver
high performance, fl exibility, excellent color quality and dependability along with easy to use features and
a reliable upgrade path. The RIP-Kit is fully compatible with PostScript® Language Level 3, PDF v.1.7 and
XPS. The RIP comes complete with input and output mechanisms as well as a comprehensive Graphical User
Interface.
Versatility and Performance.
With support for over 300+ output devices, the RIP-Kit offers a wide variety of options and plugins.
The RIP-Kit also includes the ability to simultaneously RIP and print for faster output. Multi-threaded
rendering helps remove RIP bottlenecks in handling raster data and takes full advantage of the new Duo and
Quad core technologies.
Process Multiple File Formats.
Process Postscript, PDF and XPS fi les natively. Processing fi le formats natively means there is no
intermediary conversion to another fi le format. This means faster and more accurate output.
Macintosh OS 10.5 and Windows Vista.
Version 8 has added support for printing from and running the RIP on Macintosh OS 10.5 as well as
Windows Vista.
Extra Gray Levels.
Print more than 4,000 shades of gray for maximum quality at almost any resolution.
Harlequin Precision Screening (HPS).
This screening technology is included with every RIP-Kit and is designed to eliminate moiré
patterns. This feature can be enabled to ensure high quality screens when outputting color
separations.
Output Preview.
Preview jobs before they are printed saving wasted time and media. Preview jobs in full composite
color or preview each plate separately.
Application Support.
Version 8 allows user to print from the latest design applications including Adobe® CS4 and Quark
XPress 8.
Font Emulation.
When fonts requested by the RIP are unavailable it is becoming increasingly important to produce
acceptable, readable copy, especially with digital printing. To achieve this, emulated fonts are used to
produce suitable facsimile text based on the characteristics of the font that is being substituted in terms
of style, spacing, height and width. In this way, a suitable readable font with similar characteristics of
the target font is used in the place of a missing font. Font emulation is often acceptable when digital
printing, and can be preferable to the fi le not being produced at all.
Multiple Input Channels.
The RIP supports multiple input channels which means users can print to the RIP through AppleTalk,
NT Print, NT Pipe, Spoolfolders or Socket TCP/IP. Print directly to the RIP from your design
application.
